Suspect in Attack on Albuquerque Jewish Institutions Remains in Federal Custody

In mid-June, JCRC-NM was represented at a federal court hearing in Albuquerque by Director Juan Dircie, alongside leadership from Congregation Albert, the Jewish Community Center (JCC), and other members of our community. The hearing concerned the individual accused of targeting Congregation Albert and the JCC in early June.  The Assistant U.S. Attorney presented the evidence. The judge found probable cause and ruled that the defendant stays in custody pending further proceedings.

From the day of the attacks, JCRC–NM remained in steady contact with senior leadership at the Albuquerque Police Department, the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. In-person meetings, calls, and emails kept community safety front and center.

The progression from attack to arrest to federal court has been swift.

It sends a clear message: antisemitism and violence against our community will be met with firm action.
